Serendipitous jacket find and pretty cats

This jacket was a serendipitous find. I had just brought in some items to sell at a local buy/sell/trade shop that occasionally has some nice vintage pieces when I spotted this jacket hanging behind the counter. I asked about it right away only to be told it was on hold for someone else. Boo. After walking around the store for some time I realized that the jacket was the only thing I wanted! The manager finally looked up all the hold information she had on it and viola! The hold had expired! It was mine- and I had been looking for a little leather jacket to wear when it was nippy but not cold. YAY recycled clothing stores. Booo warming trend this week so that I can’t wear it much. The dress is someone’s homemade effort and has a great comfy shape which was great for wearing out to dinner (hence the wrinkles, sorry).

As we drove down this little country road we saw a train stopped for a break (or a brake, whichever).

We decided to stop for a break too, to enjoy the fall air that wasn’t too cold for bare legs but was cool enough for a light coat! And this coat, which is boyish, takes the edge off of my girlish dress that would otherwise scream spring. 

YAY! That’s a fun fall day.  Family drive, baby falls asleep, Mama gets to sit down for an extended period of time without worrying about entertaining anyone at all.

Except I did miss you, of course, not a technology device in sight.

My tights match the sky and other fashion musings, EBEW

This month EBEW decided on colored tights! I ADORE colored tights. I love them bright, with patterns, and I can’t wait for tight weather! But today? I picked one of my plainest pair.  They are a blue grey to match the cloudy skies. I just couldn’t put on bright pink on such a drab day for some reason. I think I need to tights shop- I am in need of a pumpkin colored pair in honor of fall. And some red ones in honor of December… Where do you buy your fave tights?

I will admit something embarrassing, I have been known to purchase the kids’ tights when I can find them big enough! They have some cute patterns and colors after all…

If this outfit seems randomly thrown together- it is. I had my little plaid dress and tights all picked out to wear with a nice, conservative jacket. But I gravitated towards this seasonal vest that I love wearing in fall- and voila, pattern mishmash ensues. I obviously don’t take fashion seriously. But cute tights? Serious business. Seriously.

Any excuse to pull out the vintage coats

For years I have collected vintage coats- and it’s ridiculous. I live in a place that seldom sees fridgid winter weather (with the exclusion of last winter when I brought home an infant of course). I have enough vintage coats to wear a different one every week of the year now. It started with just one. 

I had the standard new coats, black pea coat, raincoat, one new trench… then I saw the lovely cream car coat at the thrift store. It needed some tlc from the dry cleaner, but came back good as new. I started looking at every opportunity for one of a kinds coats- and found them. I don’t remember when I found this little leather coat. It has tie closures at the wrist and waist, and a hood in back, all leather. And I love the color for fall.

Too bad it’s so warm again this week- but I can wear it in the mornings without looking totally silly.

A recent WhoWhatWear article on Houndstooth made me drag my little skirt out into the light for the first time in ages. And because I can’t resist a challenge I put it with one of my happy plaid shirts. Another, “It doesn’t match but I think it goes” moment in Lemondrop history. Happy almost weekend. I am the most temperature intolerant whiny pants. When it’s hot, I long for cold, when it’s cold, I want a scarf. Or three. So I wear layers for Texas mornings that I shed by afternoon.  Is the weather stable enough for you to wear your autumnal wear all day? Lucky!

We are still having plenty of warmth each afternoon so I can wear bare legs and a little coat to keep the wind away. Mr. Lemondrop said that this coat and dress didn’t match. And I agree, they may not match like items in the JC Penney catalog do, but they GO. And that’s good enough for me.
