Wildflowers, not wallflowers

A short drive down a country road yields neat little stores and wildflowers during a Texas Springtime… I almost don’t miss my fave tights, coats, and plaid. But I will come summer when I am a bit over all of my flower madness.  This maxi dress is super comfy, and usually serves as my casual Friday wear.  It puts me in mind of a summer vacation and I definitely don’t fade into the woodwork with it on. So far no one has asked me for a lei or when I returned from my Hawaii trip while I am wearing it… but I will keep you posted. How’s your Spring shapin’ up?

Patchy leather weather

I love this little dress- new from Target just last week. It’s one of those “now and later” dresses you see in the magazines. Now… with tights and winter layering… later with flipflops and margaritas. Yes, a margarita is a perfectly acceptable accessory for almost any event. Except church and job interviews. And if your interview is at a bar, then it’s ok there too, right? Can you tell I’ve had a long week and it’s only Tuesday? I hardly ever daydream about tequila on a  good week. One bright spot is my new shiny leaf necklace from Jesse Anne Designs, and she’s agreed to host a giveaway next week with us! Happy patchwork leather day, friends!

Lavender + a field does not = lavender fields

I like how we are only a few days into the new year and I have already tarnished my resolution list with a missed gym visit and a bag of milk chocolate. I am chalking both up to the stress of going back to work after a nice break and moving on. After all there is some nutrient value in chocolate and my bum needed to recover from the enthusiastic attempt I made at lunges on New Year’s Day. I recently read an article on embracing my failures and going forward…so here I go! On to a resolution that I can achieve- trying new things. And by new I mean wearing new colors I normally disdain. And by disdain I mean purple. My mother loves purple, and it was one of my high school colors, thus I usually avoid it.  I can find very little evidence of it in my blogged outfits. (and if an outfit isn’t blogged does it really exist?)
So- trying new things, √
Feeling peaceful about it as if I was lying in a lavender field…no √

Scarlet woman (with orange)

Yesterday, to have a luncheon of salad and ice cream with the family I decided to dress in happy brights. While I wear lots of orange I rarely don red. So the orange helped me embrace both pattern mixing and wearing the color of big appetites. Perfect for all you can eat salad buffets.
And I mentioned the ice cream.
Happy brights to you! What’s your latest orange-capade?

What Laura Ingalls Wilder would wear if she shopped at Target

When I see bitsy floral dresses Little House on the Prairie always comes to mind. I guess watching all of those reruns was very floral formative in my youth. Who knew? But poor Laura never could have had such a bright bitsy blue floral at Mr. Olsen’s store. Yay for Target.  Maybe she wouldn’t have chosen these shoes, but you never know. Right? Do you have some bitsy florals lurking in your chiffarobe too?

I never promised you a rose garden, or dresses that don’t need alterations

I was thrilled to find this little dress while thrifting in a nearby town last week. I love roses, though most of the time I don’t like myself in lots of pink. But this dress just shouted summer at me, and I really do like the length, though I suspect that it is meant to be shorter on the right size woman. I am not in any way tall.

I just hate shortening vintage clothing unless I know I will keep it for a long time. I feel so guilty! What if this is the perfect length for someone else?
It’s vintage!
I know it’s not circa 1923 or anything, but still. What do you think? Should I hem it? I know I’d wear it more if I did.

Hope your weekend was rose filled, loves.
